Having fun with the camera calibration tag in C4D R14

One of the things I like about Cinema 4D is, that every new version brings some functions I am really going to use in my everyday work. Unlike Photoshop, where 90 percent of the time I use tools that are there since version 4 (the first I used), new functions almost always have immediate use scenarios. So I was very hyped when I learned about the new camera calibration tag. Of course you could map stuff onto a Image before, but it’s so much easier now. The above picture is one of the better URBEX-photos I’ve taken and I thought I give it a spin with the piano. The matching in C4D took maybe 10 to 15 minutes with basic lighting . Then I did some additional touch up in Photoshop and voila, the result is pretty good I think.
I also started making little birthday animations for my loved ones. So when my big sisters birthday came up I added a little bit of animation. Super easy and super fun.
If you want to try it for yourself, as always there’s a very helpful tutorial on greyscalegorilla.

New series!

Hi there, this is my new series “10 seconds of …” where we will recreate 10 seconds of moving images that were part of our childhood, be it video games, movies or whatever comes to mind. I created a vimeo group here if you want to participate. I hope to get some cool stuff together.
My first entry are 10 seconds from Super Mario World, one of the first video games I played extensively. And by extensively I mean whole nights. I collected 100 lives in level 2 on Yoshis Island and fought my way through the harder levels. When I ran out of lives I would come back to this level and get new ones.
I created the animation in Cinema 4D and After Effects. The 3D setup is basically a mix of sprites and blocks with the textures slapped on. Thanks to the cloner object it was no big deal to create the blocks. Mario-related sprites can be found all over the internet.
Hope you like it.
